April 20 2015 - I CAN STOP ANYTIME I WANT$2.99, I couldn’t say no. Aldi’s had three of these on discount. I pulled them all out of their boxes and examined their roots and foliage. This one was the most promising, so it came home with me, even though I know that the chances of this making it are plenty slim. I have bought many discount plants in bags and boxes and they usually don’t fare well, even if they make it in the short term, they tend to just be weak in the mid term and eventually succumb to something within a year or two (I’ve had much better results reviving things in pots, no bags involved).Still, for this price I thought it was worth trying. I know exactly where I’m going to plant it - where the previous apparently-not-hardy-here clematis was in the Geometric bed. In the meantime it is in a small dish of water and I might give it a little cloche. I don’t know how long it’s been sitting on the store shelf. I did try to warn other interested but obviously not hardcore gardening customers that the other plants looked dead. Always inspect your plants before buying! Pretty boxes and labels are lying, deceitful things. Open them.We had a minor disaster, when V was trying to remove trays of seedlings from the yellow scaffolding b/c he suddenly decided that he wanted to use it, a bunch of stuff flipped over and fell. I think everything will mostly be okay though. We have so many pepper seedlings it’s alright if we lose a couple here and there. -- source link
