Tintoretto Painting His Dead Daughter (1873). Henry Nelson O'Neil (English, 1817-1880). Oil on canvas. Wolverhampton Arts and Heritage. The relationship between Tintoretto and his painter daughter Marietta has been the subject of no little speculation. Tintoretto did not want to lose the company of his daughter who delighted him with her singing and playing. In order to keep her in Venice, in 1578 Tintoretto engineered a marriage to a wealthy Venetian jeweller, Mario Augusti, conditional that Marietta would remain in Tintoretto’s house until his death. -- source link
