medievalroyalsearch:Medieval Royal Women Series. 1/?? Constance of Hungary, Queen consort of Bohemia (c.1180-December 6, 1240) Constance was a daughter of Bela III, King of Hungary and Agnes of Antioch. Both of her brothers, Emeric and Andrew became kings of Hungary. Her sister Margaret, was a Byzantine Empress consort as the wife of Emperor Isaac II Angelos. Constance was the second wife of King Ottokar I of Bohemia. Constance married Ottokar in 1199, the same year he divorced his first wife, Adelaide of Meissen. She was about 19, and Ottokar was about 44. They went on to have nine children. Seven of their children survived into adulthood: three sons, Wenceslaus I, King of Bohemia, Vladislaus, Margrave of Moravia, and Premysl, Margrave of Moravia. Their four surviving daughters were Judith, Duchess of Carinthia, Anna, High Duchess of Poland, Bozena/Guglielma, who apparently never married and moved to Milan, Italy, where she became famous for healing skills, and Saint Agnes of Bohemia, nun and Abbess. Constance seems to have been an active queen consort. She was listed as a co-donor with her husband multiple times during his reign. Constance also has been known to write several letters to the public and to monasteries, and some of her letters survive to this day. She was widowed in 1230, and about two years later, she founded Porta Coeli Convent in Bohemia. She lived there as a nun for the rest of her life, dying on December 6, 1240, around the age of sixty. She was buried in the convent. -- source link
