Warmest September on RecordIt’s been a warm year. Several organizations, including the Japanese Meteorological Agency, NASA, and NOAA keep running tallies of the average global temperature as the year goes on. These global average temperatures are calculated by taking all of the daily temperature measurements (not just the high and low) recorded at stations around the world and calculating an average over the planet’s surface. All 3 of these surveys found the month of August to be the hottest August in the recorded record (http://tinyurl.com/kowv9u8). This week the final data was published for the month of September by NOAA and once again all 3 surveys found September 2014 to be the hottest September on record globally. The month of September was far enough of an extreme that it pushed the first 9 months of 2014 to the head of the line as the current warmest 9 month stretch on record. 4 months out of this year: May, June, August, and September, have taken the title as “warmest month of xxxx in our records”.The last time Earth experienced a September with temperatures below the average for the 20th century was 1976.-JBBCredit: NOAAhttp://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/summary-info -- source link
