pennywaltzy:(Banner by @strangelock221b)Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures - It all begins with an invitation to Mycroft’s wedding to his PA and seven days at a resort in Jamaica, with the assumption that Molly pretends to be his girlfriend that his mother might be under the impression that he’s going to propose to sooner rather than later. It ends up being so much more than that…READ CHAPTER 1 | READ CHAPTER 13 | BUY ME A COFFEE?After Molly left for her breakfast with Andrea and the dress fittings and alterations, Sherlock lingered in his room for a bit, ruminating on what she had said. If he were to treat his brother’s reappearance in the family as a case, he would have a mystery to work on and balance with best man duties. But there was something that seemed off about things. He wasn’t sure if Sherrinford knew about the wedding in advance or if it had been an opportune surprise, but that seemed the best thing to figure out first. And that meant talking to his mother. He knew that she would be eating at the breakfast area, but he wanted this conversation to be in private and that might not be an option until much later that evening. So he needed to figure out how to get some information until he could get his mother alone.Eventually, he got dressed in the more casual clothing he had brought with him and went looking for Robert and his aunt. If nothing else, as people with contacts and experience with Sherrinford in the past, perhaps they would know what his brother had been up to before he crashed back into his parent’s lives again. His Uncle Harrington was with them, enjoying a good meal, and after Sherlock got some coffee he went to their table. “You can’t exist on just coffee alone,” he said.Sherlock gave his uncle a grin. “I’ll eat in a bit. But I have some questions for Robert and Mildred about my brother. Sherrinford, I mean, not Mycroft.”“Looking into the matter?” Mildred said with a small smile.“Trying to find out why he chose now to rejoin the family,” Sherlock said as he sat at the last open spot at the table. “You said he deals in things like secrets. Was he doing that lately?”“He’d been mixed up with the Russians, according to rumours,” Robert said as he dug into his food. “I bet if you’d gone to Russia you may have run into problems with the last name Holmes and your looks.”“So it’s a good thing your nemesis made that video and it was played,” Mildred said.“You know, I have wondered about that,” Sherlock said. “It seems as though it was perfectly timed.”“Sometimes we run across people and things that are helpful, and sometimes you’re useful to us,” Mildred said. “So we may have had a hand in things. But don’t tell your brother. The one we like, not Sherrinford.”Sherlock nodded and had some of his coffee. That, at least, was one mystery in his life that was solved, and he was grateful for both the answer and the intervention. “Well, what exactly was my brother up to with the Russians?”“We’re not entirely sure,” Mildred said. “But the rumours are that money is missing and he may know things he shouldn’t. And before the Russian, there was an incident in Brazil, and another in Belize. Your brother has been a busy man.”“So he could be on the run from any number of people,” Sherlock said.“That’s not to mention the fact he has a reputation in a lot of other places of being on the wrong side of the law,” Robert said. “He’s been on our radar and Mycroft’s for quite some time, but after the incident in Russia he went off the grid.”Sherlock nodded. “And how long ago was that?”Robert looked at Mildred. “Two, three months ago, Aunt Mildred?”“That sounds about right, Mildred said with a nod. “We almost lost a good woman to the task of trying to track him down. She ended up in the hornet’s nest, so to speak, and we’re lucky she’s as skilled as she is.” She had some of her tea.“So Russia was decidedly the incident that sent him scrambling for cover?” Sherlock asked, and both Robert and Mildred nodded. “Then why go back to London when he had to have been aware people were looking for him?”“I’m not sure,” Mildred said, “but it does bear some looking into. Robert, accompany Sherlock on the rest of his case. I’d very much like to know what Sherrinford’s plans are and what he’s been up to to see if we need to reel him in before the wedding or simply follow his movements later.”“Alright,” Robert said with a decisive nod. “Breakfast first, though?”“I’ll go get some food,” Sherlock said. He left his coffee at the place setting and went to get some food. He had the feeling most of his questions had gotten answered, but there would be more questions to take their place, and only one place to go: his brother, Sherrinford. -- source link
