Yachting in the Archipelago (1898). Henri Gervex (French, 1852-1929). Oil on canvas.A sundrenched yet breezy depiction of society life on a yacht, leading one’s thoughts to those cross-channel designs operating between Dover and Calais. A flirtatious couple casually conversing stands leaning against the railing. The properly dressed party beside them are all keeping busy with commitments of their own, working on a knitting, catching up on the news and cuddling a dog. In the rear, three crew members stand gazing towards the coastline piercing up into a bright azure sky. The sun shimmers through the open parts of the canvas roof. -- source link
