witchlingfumbles:halffizzbin:wolvesofcolor:exploring-fandoms:(x)in an industry where black males are seen as aggressive and monstrous, the character who is literally ‘a monster’ is a sensitive yet level headed kid. the fandom needs to talk about Boyd. always.#I WANT THIS ON EVERY FUCKING TEEN WOLF BLOG #fuckers lets talk about how Boyd is 1000x more sensitive than Isaac #that doesn’t happen on TV shows okay #and then he gets turned werewolf and he is STILL extremely sensitive #but Boyd is calm and level headed for the most part okay #I just wanna point out that Boyd is the exact opposite of every stereotype set out for black males #WHICH IS WHY I need Boyd to be talked about in the fandom #which is why Boyd is an amazing character to have on a show about monsters #the others are constantly aggressive trying to fight their way through problems #but Boyd does A LOT of sitting and watchingSeverely underusing (and then needlessly killing) Boyd was the #1 biggest waste of character potential ever on television and that’s why I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive Jeff Davis even if 3B opens with Stiles riding Derek in the front seat of the reinstated Camaro okay.Everything about this is so perfect. And now I have so much need for Boyd in my fic.YES THANK YOU. And he was hugely, seriously much more thoughtful than just about anyone on this show–we never found out much about what was up with his family, right? Because I got the feeling that he had had to take care of himself for a long time; he was more of an adult than basically anybody else except (some of) the actual adults. (And we did learn near his end that he’d been responsible for his sister.) And I was so interested during his introduction that he walked away from Scott saying, “I want to be like you,” that he was the only one who seemed to take Scott’s accusations about Derek’s motives for turning the three of them even a little seriously, and I totally thought his arc was going to be super-duper important. And then they basically took all of that content and just…gave it to Isaac. And I like Isaac! From what I know, he seems like a very sensitive portrayal of an abuse survivor, he’s funny, I’m super into Isaac/Allison, like, I’m glad he’s around, but. But. I wanted to see where Boyd could go with what he started with, which was complex and unique (on the show especially) and interesting. I wanted to know, after the motel ep, more about his sister. I wanted to know what about being turned was attractive to him, because while it was made very clear with Isaac and Erica what their motivations were (and now that I think of it in light of the conversation I’ve just been having, Erica is kind of an interesting take on a Carrie-like figure), I’m not sure it was so straightforward with him. Particularly, again, because his goal was never to “be like them." (Could it, retrospectively, have had something to do with his sister? With never wanting to find himself in a position to not be able to protect someone he cares about again? I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THAT.) I want to know what about Scott he thought was worth emulating–not because I can’t think of anything, but because I want to know what his perspective was. Boyd’s death sucked not only because it played into all the racist narrative choices we’re used to, but because his character had immense promise and was completely and utterly wasted. And I’m mad forever. -- source link
