gffa:HERE’S THE THING ABOUT THIS SPEECH, if you point at it and say, “See! The Jedi were responsible for Anakin’s fall!” because Luke says this in his despondency, you also have to accept then that Luke was just as wrong to save Vader, the most hated man in the galaxy. And, frankly, that’s some bullshit right there! This is in the middle of Luke’s speech about why the Jedi should end, he’s listing all their failures, he’s gearing up to tell her about how he failed with Ben Solo, and saying that all the Jedi ever do is fail and are wrong about being able to help people. This is in a movie where Luke has one thought about stopping Ben before he does something horrible and, okay, let’s go with the idea that he hadn’t made his choice yet (which is super arguable)–when he senses one moment of consideration of it, Ben doesn’t just get mad at Luke, he doesn’t just walk away. No, he literally burns the whole thing to the ground. He murders other Jedi because Luke had a momentary bad thought about him. He goes on to try to either murder or oppress the rest of the galaxy. That is not someone I am putting on Luke any more than I am putting Vader’s choices on the Jedi, either. I am not putting on Luke that saving Vader was wrong, because it wasn’t. I am not putting Anakin’s choices on the Jedi, because he knew better and had the wisdom to make a better choice. He did not. And I am not putting Kylo’s refusal to stop murdering people on Rey’s “failure” to save him, either.Ultimately, the point of this movie is that the Jedi may not always win, but that they exist for a reason, that the sins of others are not on them. And that’s ultimately the point of Luke and Kylo’s last fight, too, he still gives Kylo a chance not to do this, but he recognizes this is not ultimately on him. None of this is on the Jedi.AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR LUKE’S COMPASSION TO BE DENIGRATED THIS WAY. -- source link
