smittygirl:frodis-baggins:zenami:SometimesYou try so hard to take care of everyone elseThat you forget to take care of yourselfOh, MIIIIIDGIIIIIIE.YES.<3I did this for the longest time and it ended up leading to a prolonged mental breakdown. It’s okay to occasionally look after yourself, too - it doesn’t make you a bad person, especially if any social relationships you’re involved in (friendships, romances, even familial relations) are unhealthy. If you’re in an unhealthy situation, getting out doesn’t make you selfish, I promise.I was in a very unhealthy friendship for some time, and getting out was very hard for me because I genuinely felt like I had to be there to help my friend, who was also struggling with depression. It eventually dawned on me as I left college that we’d both recover better if we broke relations off, so I separated myself from her - and indeed, from what I do know of how things are on her end, it does seem like we’re both doing better now. It’s okay to get out of situations that are bad for you. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about taking care of your own mental and emotional health. -- source link
