The First Emperor — Sargon of AkkadAn ancient Sumerian king who ruled over a city called Akkad, Sargon goes down in history as one of the first rulers to conquer and build a large, centrally dominated empire. Born a noble in the Royal Court of Kish, Sargon overthrew and assassinated the king, and made himself Emperor of Sumer. Much of his reign was spent conquering a mighty realm for him to rule, and by his death in 2215 BC, he had conquered most of Mesopotamia (Modern Day Iraq) with a mighty army of 5,000 men. Unfortunately for the Akkadian Dynasty, Sargon’s Empire would last little more than a century. -- source link
