akroan-acolyte:flavoracle:I’ve always felt disappointed that Shards of Alara didn’t have any icons or watermarks for the five different shards (like the ten guilds of Ravnica and the five clans of Tarkir have.) A couple of weeks ago, I decided to try to do something about it. Above is my attempt at an icon for Bant. I am not really an artist, so please be kind with your feedback. This was really meant more as a proof of concept than anything. I had a few different objectives with the design: • Create the icon using perfect geometric shapes. • Build the overall shape of the icon around a circle with a single point. The other icon concepts progress through other shapes with increasing sides (triangle for Esper, square for Grixis, pentagon for Jund, and hexagon for Naya.) • Incorporate defining characteristics of the shard and allude to its iconic creature type. So there’s my concept for a Bant icon. Perhaps someday I’ll add my ideas for the other four shards, but those are just VERY rough sketches for now. P.S. I was also kinda happy that one of the designs ended up resembling Gideon’s shield. These look really cool! The idea comes across easily and it illustrates a basic concept of Bant as a whole. The only downside I can see is that symbols like Ravnica’s guilds or Tarkir’s clans have the ability to stand alone as a single color, typically flat black. If that were to happen with these, a lot of the detail would be lost.A simple fix to this problem would be to break up your shapes into “islands” so that there are lines of negative space to separate them. That way, you can still keep the initial design without too many sacrifices.Hope this helps!HOLYCRAPTHOSEARETOTALLYAMAZINGANDNOWIWANTYOUTOMAKETHEMALL!!!!! *composes self* Ahem… What I mean to say is, I think you’ve greatly improved upon my initial concept, and I’d love to share my other ideas with you if you’d ever be interested. -- source link
