Happy April! Training vines is the Labor of the Month for January, as presented in LJS 449, a 15th century Medical and astronomical miscellany from Germany that includes a full calendar. Other common labors for April include planting, enjoying the country or picking flowers. Below is a miniature from the Queen Mary Psalter (http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/FullDisplay.aspx?ref=Royal_MS_2_b_vii), London BL - Royal 2 B VII fol. 74v, and early 14th century English psalter. I’ll be posting a Labor from LJS 449 every month through May 2016 - next month is the final one! The manuscript also includes illustrations of all the astrological signs, which I’ll also be posting.Manuscript description and images: http://openn.library.upenn.edu/Data/LJSchoenbergManuscripts/html/ljs449.htmlEbook (epub format): http://repository.upenn.edu/sims_ebooks/62/Katelyn Mesler, 13th Century Entanglements, Part 2, a post on the SIMS blog about the Techel/Azareus Complex, “a Latin lapidary in which engravings of astrological symbols are said to imbue the stones with powers” - which is included in LJS 449 -- source link
