sobekreshuten: Nit (Neith, Net) Primordial Creatrix, Mother of Mothers, Father of Fathers, Mistress
sobekreshuten:Nit (Neith, Net)Primordial Creatrix, Mother of Mothers, Father of Fathers, Mistress of the BowNit is a complex and ancient goddess, whose worship dates back to pre-dynastic times. Early portrayals focused on her protective hunting and warrior aspects, depicting her with crossed arrows, tied bows, and a bilobate symbol possibly depicting a shield or two click beetles. In line with her protective function as a goddess of war, Nit was understood to defend cosmic order, as well as protect the dead.Later portrayals focused on her role as a primordial creatrix. In addition to being the Mother of Sobek and other crocodile gods (in which form she was depicted suckling crocodiles), Nit featured in a cosmogony that had her as the very agent of the emergence of the cosmos, bringing forth both Ra, the principle of cosmic order, and A/pep, the principle of entropy.A hymn from Esna states that Nit fashioned the world “in her form of Goddess who reaches to the limits of the universe, in her material form of the liquid surface, in her name of unlimited duration.” In her demiurgic role, it was often written that Nit is both feminine and masculine – “two thirds masculine, one third feminine,” – both mother and father, “who inaugurated birth when birth had not yet been,” having “appeared from herself.” x x x“I am the things that are, that will be, and that have been. No one has ever laid open the garment by which I am concealed. The fruit which I brought forth was the sun.“ -- source link
