aikainkauna:Let’s just take a moment to appreciate Conrad Veidt’s badass for great justice in film. From top to bottom: thumping a closeted blackmailer of gays in the first gay rights film from 1919, beating up a rapist in an early pro-choice film from 1926, playing a sympathetic Jew in a British film even if the Nazis hated his guts for it, playing another Jewish character in a movie about antisemitism even if the Nazis had imprisoned him and tortured him for it and finally getting to shoot one of the bastards, if only on film, in 1943.Not pictured: smuggling Jews to safety and spending most of his money on rescuing as many as he could, signing gay and women’s rights manifestos in the 1910s, identifying as a Jew in Nazi Germany when he wasn’t, sheltering war kids at his house during the Blitz and all the stuff we don’t know about. But, basically, badass and amazing human being. -- source link
