vandaliatraveler:In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) as part of the New Deal to put thousands of unemployed young men to work on environment conservation projects. One of the early beneficiaries of this program was the newly-established Coopers Rock State Forest. The CCC built most of stone and wood railings, steps, pavilions, and shelters in the vicinity of the main overlook, many of which are now on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s hard to believe these facilities are nearly a century old. They’ve withstood the elements (and human graffiti) amazingly well. -- source link
