autisticproblems:Autistic Problem Number 15: When people question your sexuality or gender identification because you’re autistic.[Submitted by argilla]This is why I think we should just throw gender roles out the window entirely. I’ve never fit into them (and once I was diagnosed with Asperger’s I understood why), but the stereotypes about gender, sexual orientation and gender identification just cause everybody more problems because every individual is different.I identify as a straight cis female, but because I’m a tomboy (and my general lack of interest in romantic things/my tendency to not talk about boys like “normal” girls) people have assumed I’m a lesbian. Many people on the spectrum don’t fit into traditional gender roles, which is great, but the stereotypes cause a lot of issues.tl;dr Gender roles are stupid, gender identification and sexuality shouldn’t be stereotyped, and since people on the autism spectrum often don’t fit into those traditional gender roles we’re questioned somewhat often about our gender identification and sexuality. -- source link
