Bei Ru, Baruir Panossian, Musa Ler Music @bei_ru “The sound of a diaspora that settled in Los Angeles, Armenian music filtered through Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and underground hip-hop.”— LA Weekly One of my favourite producers of our time, Bei Ru, who formally went with the alias “Beirut” is an Armenian Los Angeles-based multi-genre music producer/composer. He uses Armenian and Middle Eastern melodies and rhythms, blending them with electronics and live instrumentation. The result is brilliant. The first time I heard his work was in 2008 when ‘Beirut’ remixed Jay-Z’s American Gangster album for the Frank Lucas biopic. The remix project was highly praised and as a result Bei Ru was featured in The Source Magazine as Unsigned Hype. Since then a lot of time has passed and Bei Ru as a producer and a composer has evolved greatly. In 2010 he released his debut album, ‘Little Armenia (L.A.)’ in late 2010. The album fuses vintage Armenian music from the 1960’s/70’s with touches of hip-hop, funk, & soul, released on his own Musa-Ler Music imprint. Recently Bei Ru released his sophomore album, Saturday Night At The Magic Lamp. He is currently working in his 3rd album, planned to be released in 2016.
