victorianfanguide:‘Thomasine Blight (1793-1856), The White Witch of Helston’ painted in 1856 by William Jones Chapman. Thomasine Blight, also known locally as Tamsin Blight or Tammy Blee, was a Cornish 'peller’ or hedgewitch. She was renowned for her magical abilities which included being able to cure the sick, create charms, remove the curses of black witches and inflict her own curses on those who displeased her. Blight’s husband James Thomas was said to possess similar powers and for a time they had a successful partnership offering their services to the local community. However there was a certain amount of rivalry between them and they became estranged after James fled the county to escape arrest for attempting to sleep with another man. Thomasine continued to practise as a 'cunning woman’ and was still performing spells for people whilst on her deathbed. -- source link
