Informed consent is almost never obtained, partially because doctors will lie to their “trouble making” patients or intimidate them into compliance, and partially because at the end of the day as long as the baby is out they don’t really care how it happened or what happened to the mother along the way.Obstetric violence and maternal mortality go hand-in-hand. These are reproductive rights issues, these are women’s rights issues. We should be talking to other women about their birth experiences.
