shipitneverquitit: misterstarryfreckles: I’m trying to figure out how you can tell if a moonshadow elf is married or not–since Rayla said “Runaan and his husband,” meaning marriages must be a thing in moonshadow elf culture, right? And I think the indication of marital status is these little horn cuffs. At first I was thinking that maybe they were just to protect the horn during battle, but Ethari seems more like he just makes the weapons, never going into battle himself. So the horn cuffs might be more similar to wedding rings than horn protectorsThe problem is that I can’t get a good zoom in on Rayla’s dad to tell if he’s wearing them, too. I think he is, though! I will bet real money the couple makes each other’s cuffs too. Rayla’s parent’s are relatively simple, but similar to each other enough to match. Ethari’s cuffs are short with a simple bevel and a gem set in… but Runaan’s are the real crux of this thought. His are simple metal without added coloring or inset gems, but the engraving is so decorative. And I’m sure conforming to the shape of different horns has a factor but where the other three are either layered in more sections to follow the curve easily or short enough not to need to, Runaan’s are really expertly shaped from a single piece of metal. All I’m saying is, of the four cuff examples, which looks like they were made by a master craftsman? This would also mean 1) Ethari big flexed to make sure his husband looked fucking good and 2) Runaan did his best but kept it simple and probably knew his wonderful talented husband would outshine him no matter what he made but by god he was going to make them nice. -- source link
