coconutcafe:This is Neerja Bhanot. In 1986, whilst she was working as an air hostess, her plane, which was on route to New York, was hijacked by four heavily armed terrorists. As the only senior member of the crew on board (the pilot and other cockpit crew managed to ground the plane and escape thanks to Bhanot’s warning) she took charge and was ordered to take the passports of any American passengers so that they could be shot. Bhanot, however, took the passports of the 19 American passengers and hid them so that they wouldn’t be shot. After 17 hours, the hijackers opened fire and set off explosives. As the emergency exits were opened and the passengers and crew escaped, Neerja Bhanot died using her body to shield 3 small children from bullets. She died at the age of 22. x -- source link
