minakonumnums:“I think something like Jori or Cam or Kogan is not a good idea. I have no problems with homosexuals. Everyone should be able to love who they love, but do little, tiny kids need to know that? It would confuse them. They wouldn’t understand. Doesn’t misunderstanding lead to intolerance? It’s not teaching them that it’s okay. It’s leading them to be confused about homosexuality. And that’s the last thing we need are small children with the wrong idea.”Yes, kids should know that everybody should be able to love who they love. I asked my mom if two girls could marry each other when I as in second grade and she told me straight up yes.I wasn’t confused. I carried on with my life and my feelings.I just accepted it. It’s surprisingly not that big of a deal. Being with someone of the same sex isn’t some sort of evil activity that children should be sheltered from.I like to think that I’m not a piece of trash, but this stuff doesn’t help.Agreeing wholeheartedly with you. The sooner kids are told things, the more accepting they’ll be as adults. Saying that kids “don’t understand” is underestimating their intelligence and talking down to them, which no child appreciates - and which can lead to actual ignorance as adults. If you want kids to be open-minded, expose them to people from all walks of life at an early age, and you’ll end up with a more well-rounded, well-adjusted, mature, understanding and accepting adult when that kid grows up. -- source link
