Haiyan before, after, and how you can help This pair of satellite images shows before and after scenes from the city of Tacloban, one of the hardest hit areas by super-typhoon Haiyan. This city sits close to the tip of Leyte Gulf, the gulf we’ve discussed here at TES that focused the storm surge towards the arrow around Tacloban. The company which produced these images, Digitalglobe, has launched a crowd-sourced campaign to map the devastation in satellite images to assist in rebuilding and recovery efforts. If you go to this link, you can assist while sitting at your computer by categorizing destruction such as destroyed houses, bridges, and so forth. http://www.tomnod.com/nod/challenge/haiyantyphoon2013. As a final reminder…if you’d like to contribute to recovery efforts…please consider contributing money, do not try to donate items. The main things people on the ground need right now are food, and water, items which can be most easily purchased in the surrounding areas and countries, whereas donations of items require money and resources to ship them and the products often go unused anyway. You’re better off giving a small monetary donation than contributing items several times as valuable. -JBB Image credit:http://www.digitalglobeblog.com/2013/11/11/typhoonhaiyan/?sf19353682=1http://photoblog.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/11/12/21424364-typhoon-haiyans-impact-revealed-in-before-and-after-satellite-images -- source link
