hauntinghyrule:Somewhat related to the most recent meta thread, but tangential enough I felt it needed it’s own post: this scene. I feel it’s very indicative of Shadow’s trust in Vio (and possibly a certain amount of overconfidence in their combined abilities) because… well, the plan is basically:Step 1: Defeat Vaati (Shadow never elaborates on how, but he does state that this is a thing he could do “easily”)Step 2: Release Zelda at a strategic momentStep 3: Allow her to team up with the Links and imbue them with the power necessary to defeat GanonEven if Vio were honestly on Shadow’s side, this would leave the two of them versus Green, Red, Blue, and Zelda, all at full power. There’s a big, important “and then what?” that never really gets addressed. Shadow’s just like “yep, the two of us, we’re unstoppable. We’ve got this.”(Step 4: ??? - Step 5: Profit! Rule Hyrule together!)I wonder what Vio would have done if they had managed to get that far. Once again the question really is “and then what?” Overpower Shadow with numbers and hold him still until he succumbs to the Power of Friendship???Well, okay, there’s the obvious “aim the next monster-killing beam of light at him“ answer, but I don’t actually think that was what Vio was going for. If that was his goal, just breaking the mirror would be simpler, and this conversation happened after Shadow revealed the Mirror as the source of his and Vaati’s power. If Vio had made his mind up right away to break it, why continue trying to sew discord among the enemy ranks? No, I think this was Vio’s attempt at a non-lethal resolution. (Well… non-lethal-to-Shadow. Ganon’s still out of luck.)But in that case, why the change of plans? Why did Vio attempt to break the mirror after all? Well…There wasn’t time. There wasn’t time to try for a more complicated solution - Shadow was a threat to innocent lives now, immediately. The very next page shows Vio leaving to break the mirror. -- source link
