Iron Age sword, 1st century BC, found at Bardney. The Iron sword survives inside its copper alloy scabbard. It was one of a pair found in 1787. The sword is significant in terms of the history of archaeological science as the other sword was melted down in an experiment to determine its metallic content in 1796. It is thought likely that the end of the scabbard was also prized open at that time. The Collection Museum, Lincoln, 31.1.16. -- source link
