I curated this album in 2004 with the idea of claiming some more space for a bunch of amazing female artists. I was aiming for a *Siren* festival in Ireland and I had an interested promoter on board ….( It wasn’t a brand new idea…. Lilith Fair had already happened in the US by then) . The first step was the album….to gather some reviews and attention and airplay. It was and is a gorgeous album. Sadly it was snarkily reviewed in a *why put women together in a music ghetto* kind of way. We managed one gig with me and @katellkeineg @amymrigby @nina_hynes_ and it was a lot of fun. I made the album because, having set up Mermaid Records 4 years previously , I could understandhow difficult it was for female artists in Ireland to be heard. I wasn’t lumping us all together in a ghetto, I was entwining in shared love and making of independent music, I was hoping to make something bigger than one person could do on their own , and open up new space and stages for those starting to gather an audience . If you’ve been looking at the work @lindacooganbyrne @goodseedpr @ainetyrrellmusic have been doing lately, not a whole lot has changed in our radio world 16 years later……..#playOurTunes #femaleArtists #MusicWillMindUshttps://www.instagram.com/p/CCnlWyMgRsX/?igshid=g3n6wnaio147 -- source link
