workingclasshistory:On this day, 14 July 2011, the Israeli “tent protest” movement began when Daphni Leef pitched a tent in central Tel Aviv after learning that she could not afford a flat. Within 24 hours, dozens joined her and over the coming fortnight a nationwide protest movement against housing prices, high cost of living and social inequality emerged: the largest predominantly Jewish protest movement in Israel’s history. However, the movement was stifled by Israeli nationalism.
