Portrait of Lizzy Ansingh (1902). Thérèse Schwartze (Dutch, 1851-1918). Oil on canvas. Rijksmuseum.Lizzy Ansingh and Thérèse Schwartze belonged to the Amsterdam Joffers, a group of painters around 1900. Schwartze was the undisputed star, she had great success with mundane society portraits. This informal portrait of her niece Lizzy Ansingh is one of her best: the contrast between light and dark is an intimate portrait. The quick, firm brushstrokes and red accent on the bright green give it a powerful presence. -- source link
