idahlart:@thelioninmybedHahaha! I love this cocksure Fëanor. He looks like such a bro here. I do not know the specific context, but I am thinking Losgar.(Metas and headcanons below): Idahlart’s Fëanor suffers from low self-esteem, which is an interesting perspective and still leads, ironically, to hubris. If the only thing he was proud of of and had faith in was his craftsmanship, doubting all else, it would explain some of his obsessions. He must have been a good dad, at least at some point, to have earned such deep loyalty from his boys. I think, in this view, he would want his kids to know how important they were because he felt cast aside by his own family. However, his sons must be as loyal to him as he was to his mother (though she did not love him enough to stay and blam-o! there goes your self-esteem, right? Thanks for that, mom! ), and the only time he may have felt he truly reached perfection was the Silmarils. If so, those gems defined him and he could not bear to lose them. And to prove their love, his sons had to swear to help him get them back no matter what. To bad he did not value the contributions or craftsmanship of others, like the Teleri and their one-of-a-kind-taught-personally-by-Ossë-super-special-Swan-ships, right? Heh. Jerk. I always saw him as a selfish, dissatisfied genius, who left a lot of rubble along the road to what he saw as perfection, but I can see the low self-esteem Fëanor, too.“Fëanor loved his mother dearly, though except in obstinacy their characters were widely different. He was not gentle. He was proud and hot-tempered, and opposition to his will he met not with the quiet steadfastness of his mother but with fierce resentment. He was restless in mind and body, though like Míriel he could become wholly absorbed in works of the finest skill of hand; but he left many things unfinished.” - (Morgoth’s Ring - “The Shibboleth of Fëanor” p. 333)In my headcanon, Fëanor is pretty much a dick. But, still, I like the low self-esteem view or compounding his dickishness with low self-esteem also works for me. ;) Regardless, @idahlart has some amazing depictions of him, and several will probably show up on this blog.
