In pace requiescat. –Process walkthrough is below the cut!1. Rough Sketch - This was drawn earlier in the stream - Ethan’s Unus is gazing off to the side and still wearing his jacket. Mark Annus hasn’t got his iconic top hat yet either. —2. Color Rough - Blocking in the color palette - borderline monochrome. As many neutral grays as possible as dark and light become one.—3. Color Flats - Turned off the sketch layer to see if the colors hold up on their own. At this point, I was also rushing to make some last minute changes during the final hours of the stream - Unus shucked off his jacket for the tattoo, revealing his vest which gave this piece a nice spot of warmth. Annus got his hat, which gave his hands something to do other than resting on his chin in the earlier sketch.—4. Shadows - Pretty self explanatory. Blocking in the darks! Kind of like how it looks at this stage with the matte-like surface quality. But since it isn’t accurate to the gloss-like finish to the casket, further lighting passes are needed. (At this point I also realized that the way the casket lid is open a smidge is inaccurate - it is supposed to operate on a hinge, whoops!)—5. Lights - Gloss/light treatment to make things look shiny. Really proud of how the hourglass came out in particular! You might notice that some of the lighting pass with Unus and Annus in particular is a bit rough because I was rushing to finish it before the stream.—6. Gradient Pass - Added gray gradient to balance out the light/dark proportions since I felt it was skewing too close to white rather than neutral. Also helped Annus pop out since he was beginning to blend into the light background.—7. Atmosphere - Softened the lighting considerably to better evoke the mood I was going for: introspective, calm, and quiet.8. Final Color Adjustments - Added a smidge of warmth so it doesn’t look as somber. Less mourning, more nostalgic remembrance if that makes sense! -- source link
