Effect of background color on painting.Lots of artists starting out in digital tend to paint on a white background. It’s a lot like paper, it’s familiar, and painting on darker tones can feel weird. But, the background value you paint on can effect the colors you choose. In this exercise, I painted the face on the light background circled in blue, then I painted the face on the black background circled in orange, and did my best to match the values without looking. Meaning, I tried to keep the bright parts just as bright and the dark parts just as dark. When you compare these two faces side-by-side, you can really see how my ability to choose colors was altered by the background I painted on.If you don’t know what your background is, pick a value that is as close to it as possible. That way when you add details to the background it will still look great.—Made by stevieraedrawnTwitch | Website | Twitter | DeviantArt -- source link
