Exclusive: Season 1 of the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series has a budget of more than $15 million per episode, for a total of more than $120 million for the first seasonHUGE news: I can confirm that ATLA Season 1 has among the highest TV show budgets of all time, with a price tag of $15 million+ per episode.Today, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh) mentioned that Netflix’s live-action ATLA is a “hundred million dollar show” in an interview. I checked with one of my sources on the production (not him lol) and can confirm that it’s even bigger: more than $120 million for the 8-episode first season.Along with juggernauts like The Mandalorian on Disney+ and the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, it’s one of the most expensive shows of all time, likely only beaten by the allegedly insane budgets of the MCU Disney+ shows, and, of course, Amazon’s billion-dollar LOTR series. It’s notable that for ATLA, this is only the first season, and again it’s “more than” this amount– if it’s $16M per episode it’s $128M total, if it’s $17M per episode it’s $136M total, etc. One big part of that is the use of a brand-new, custom-made virtual production volume (once again similar to The Mandalorian), the largest of its kind of this cutting edge technology in North America, but in conjunction with on-location filming. We can finally put a number to all this, and it’s amazing to know that the cast and crew are getting the support they deserve! -- source link
