vixyish:alexandraerin:thebicker:workingamerica:When you hear friends talk about “makers” and “takers,” who are they talking about? Thanks Forward Progressives for the graphic. http://on.fb.me/16AKkTRI fact-checked this. It’s not quite true. THE REALITY IS ACTUALLY WORSE. The US is missing between $410-$500 billion in tax dollars from 2010. In that same year, we spent roughly $64 billion on SNAP benefits. That means tax evasion is costing about six to eight times more than the food stamp program. So where are the laws to crack down on tax evasion to fix the deficit? Also, that $64 billion in SNAP benefits generates around $100 billion in economic activity, because people who get money in the form of food stamps don’t stick it in a low risk portfolio somewhere, they go out and spend it. Immediately. And the money they spend gets spent again, it just doesn’t disappear.Putting money in the hands of the people who need it most is the fastest way to boost the economy of our nation. And ultimately, it’s just going to end up in the hands of the people at the top anyway, but along the way it will help so many people.Bolding mine. -- source link
