This amazing picture was taken in Upper Antelope Canyon, in northern Arizona, near Page, Arizona on Navajo land. Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon cut into the Navajo Sandstone, formed primarily by flash flooding. Upper Antelope Canyon has the Navajo name Tsé bighánílíní, “the place where water runs through rocks”. This canyon is a popular tourist attraction primarily because it requires no hiking to get to; the entrance and entire length are at ground level.Slot canyons are notorious for flash floods. Many people have drowned in these types of canyons because there is no easy exit from the canyon. The Navajo Nation has installed ladders, cargo nets, weather radios and an alarm system to help alleviate some of the danger from flooding. These canyons can be found in many places around the world, mainly in areas with little precipitation. Some canyons can be less than 1m across and be greater than 30m deep. About the picture: According to the photographer, this was taken in Upper Antelope Canyon.
