Achillea millefolium is in the sunflower family Asteraceae. Commonly known as Yarrow, it is native to much of the Northern Hemisphere, found throughout parts of Europe Asia and North America. This plant has a variety of different uses ranging from medicinal to ornamental. The genus name is derived from the Greek hero Achilles, who was said to carry this plant around to treat the wounds of soldiers. Yarrow is used to treat ailments such as dysentery and fever, and also has astringent properties which make it a useful herbal remedy to treat cuts and skin problems.
