THIS is what it looks like to be a good ally to Jewish people. Taking action and speaking out against antisemitism in all forms even when it is challenging.Seriously folks should give this a read. These teens (Jordan and Archer) were the only ones to object, they pushed back for weeks despite administrative run arounds, objected to the assignment, its language, and they asked for help and advice and ended up contacting the ADL. They didn’t back down or give up – they were given the chance to complete an alternative assignment (they wrote about the HIV/AIDS crisis and Japanese internment respectively), and not only did it but ALSO wrote a report on why they spoke up, what was wrong, as a chronicle of their activism. they were the ONLY ones to speak up, and the ONLY ones to do the alternative assignment - which disappointed them. IF THAT ISN’T HORRIFYING ENOUGH THIS CLASS WAS FOR A POLITICS/GOVERNMENT ORIENTED GIFTED TRACK SO ALL THEIR CLASSMATES ARE INTERESTED IN POLITICS/GOV’T/LAW. NONE OF THEIR PEERS OBJECTED WITH THEM! The above picture is of them getting honored at a Yom HaShoah memorial observance. Archer is pictured wearing a yarmulke out of respect and the article notes that even after the service ended he kept wearing it inside the synagogue to be respectful. Jordan and Archer are wonderful teenagers and if they stay on the path of gov’t/politics/law I hope they continue this way and find themselves to be very successful. The program should be ashamed to produce a gifted track for politics/law where the majority of their students DON’T do what Jordan and Archer did.Not all heroes wear capes -- source link
