After I had sprayed the wooden boards with the infinity fractal, I thought the final image looked quite bland - the symbols I applied are quite simple and nothing out of the ordinary at that. It was then that I decided to look back through some of my developmental pieces I created earlier in the project to use as a springboard for a centerpiece. I created this image using the digital drawings of the tetrahedral structures I made a few weeks back. Seeing as I had been wanting to incorporate an essence of nature to the clinical geometric drawings, I find it quite fitting that one of the drawings I did looked a bit like the antler of a stag. So I extended the image, duplicated it and applied extra lines using the line tool. I wanted the creature to be a hybrid between a human and deer; the deer as a representation of the natural world with a connection to the forest, the trees and plants that inhabit it, and the cycle of life as it interacts with the other creatures of the forest as it survives in the wilderness. I also wanted the creature to have a human face, as a symbol of our collective intellect and ability to communicate and harmonize like no other creature can. I illustrated the joining of these two animals as an entity that is higher than us, a bridge between our domesticated lifestyles and pure nature. Sometimes I think that our world wouldn’t be in such turmoil if were much more connected with our natural environment as a race. This is more of a personal slant on my work, although I believe that 3M could appreciate these values in the sense that nature is constantly innovating itself. But to innovate, we must remember where we came from in order to form new solutions that move us forwards. The top image is a simplified version of the bottom image, as I needed the stencil to be as simple as possible for me to cut and spray onto the wooden panel. I am unsure as to which edition I like better. The top image looks quite robotic, which I like - as a symbol of technology and the future? Whereas the bottom image looks like it’s almost been 3-D mapped. Some of the areas I have left untouched, which could do with improvement. -- source link
