redmensch:Indigenous Peoples of Siberia: The Nenets are an ancient Arctic people who live in northern Siberia, primarily in Yamalo-Nenets Okrug and Nenets Okrug, located here:Traditionally, Nenets live as nomadic reindeer herders, migrating more than 1,000 km per year. During the Soviet period, the region was integrated into the economy and state enterprises were established, and Nenets were, like other indigenous Siberian peoples, incorporated into Soviet schools and are now literate in both Russian and various Nenets languages. Unlike other indigenous Siberian peoples, however, their traditional lifestyle is still very much intact, with more than 10,000 nomadic Nenets herding 300,000 reindeer today.
