gffa:TIME TRAVEL IS NOW CANONICALLY POSSIBLE IN STAR WARS.Once I got past the mind-blowing reality of that–because it’s always been a fandom thing, there’s never been much in canon to suggest it was possible!–the implications and possibilities of it are absolutely fascinating. Not even just in the things that could be changed, but what this means for the nature of the Force and the structure of Star Wars and their psychic space wizards.I suspect that this will be tied in with the natures of the Living Force and the Cosmic Force, which “A World Between Worlds” also brought up again. The two sides of the Force aren’t mentioned that often in canon, though as far back as The Phantom Menace mentions the Living Force, as well as George Lucas defined the two sides, in an interview, as:“The Force itself breaks into two sides: the Living Force and a greater, Cosmic Force. The Living Force makes you sensitive to other living things, makes you intuitive, and allows you to read other people’s minds, et cetera. But the greater Force has to do with destiny. In working with the Force, you can find your destiny and you can choose to either follow it, or not.“In “Voices”, Qui-Gon also says this:“I am a manifestation of the Force, a Force that consists of two parts.Living beings generate the Living Force, which in turn powers the wellspring that is the Cosmic Force.”And the Priestesses in “Destiny” say:“When a living thing dies, all is removed. Life passes from the Living Force into the Cosmic Force and becomes one with it. One powers the other. One is renewed by the other.”Ahsoka says in this episode, “Well, Kanan is part of the Cosmic Force now.“ which is an established thing in Star Wars, that their Living Force energy becomes part of the Cosmic Force again. And this will also be mentioned in the The Last Jedi novelization (according to reddit spoilers at the time I was writing this), which implies that there’s definitely at least some planning going on into further mapping out what the Force is.That maybe what the “world between worlds” is is the Cosmic Force (or a physical manifestation of it). That this is where people go when they die and, those Jedi who are especially connected to the Force, who have a part still left to play, navigate it with some consciousness still left to them. Kanan is here, giving Ezra one last mission, to allow him to let go, rather than destroy himself carrying that regret. Qui-Gon is there, having trained to reach this place, so that he can later direct Yoda (who talks to Ezra through this place in Shroud of Darkness, as Dave Filoni confirms this is the same space), and as Obi-Wan….The flashes he experiences in “Time of Death”, the moments of time that he briefly hears or sees–it sure sounds a lot like someone hurdling through the Cosmic Force, the place that has to do with Destiny and the connection of the winding paths of time. And, so, like, all those fics where Obi-Wan dies and wakes up back in the past? NOT SO CRACKY ANYMORE. -- source link
