Juniper is one of the few animals for which I already had a name in mind before seeing the animal in person. I read the name Juniper for the first time in a book years ago (don’t recall which one) and really liked the word. I’ve seen it used for pets before and when I heard it in a song recently, it got stuck in my mind again. The juniper tree is a spiky tree with dark blue berries which turn black when dried. I thought it would be very fitting for a spiky animal with quills this dark! Do you usually pick a name before you see the animal or the other way around? -- source link
