palpablenotion: kedreeva: Baby satin angora mouse from my current genetic project. That mouse looks ridiculously soft. What’s your current project? This little one is basically the end stage of the project. I came across an angora male randomly at Petco that was some kind of dilute, and took him home thinking I’d replace my satin male and start a project from scratch again.Later on someone found a black pied angora female and so I separated those two to see what they would spit out. She was a terrible mom tho… she killed all of her first litter and most of her second and third litters. Which, I suppose was no great loss, since the babies all seemed to be that pale grey-brown dilute color I don’t really like, with red eyes. Then the fourth litter had a dilute satin male, so i set him aside for breeding as well, with a pair of satin females from my main setup. The fifth litter from the original pair had black pied females, which I set aside and moved to the main setup once they were big enough, with my older satin male.Another angora female was brought my way after that, so I played musical mice the following weekend. I culled out all of the non-satin non-angora mice I still had kicking around, and most of the non-angora satin mice (I played favorites and kept some of the moms I was very fond of), and a few of the dilute non-satin angoras that I’d kept until I had better replacements, and took out anyone that decided to get aggressive over the move and recombination (thankfully only 1 this time, all my mice generally have really mellow temperaments, as that is one of the things I breed for). So there’s just the one big community cage again. And this is one of the babies from the first litter of the now-rearranged set up. They’re spitting out almost exclusively angora kids, in chocolate satin, chocolate pied satin, orange brindle(/pied) satin, tri color brindle satin, black satin, black pied satin, some dilutes here and there… all in all, really pretty kids. -- source link
