thecatsaesthetics:The two ways we see Cleopatra and how she probably looked liked. On the Left is the darker version of Cleopatra, this has become a recent trend, with the push back movement to have Ancient Egyptians seen as Africans. Now well for some dynasties in Ancient Egypt this is correct, for Cleopatra it isn’t. People don’t even realize that the name Cleopatra isn’t even Egyptian it’s Greek. She was from an almost entire Greek family, the Ptolemy’s wed brother to sister, following traditional Ancient Egypt custom. The far Right is Elizabeth Taylor version of Cleopatra, the dark haired, lighted eyed, white skinned, beautiful Pharaoh of Egypt. This isn’t accurate either. As Cleopatra did have some mixed Syrian blood and she also wasn’t the most beautiful of women, while she was not ugly, she was an average looking woman for her time. She probably had dark hair and eyes, and while her skin was white most likely it was tanned. Her eyes were probably small like her ancestors and she most likely had the Ptolemy hooked nose. I much prefer the real version of Cleopatra over the “beautiful” seductress version. -- source link
