ancientphantom:wheel-of-fish:“I was born so that she could save me, for that’s what she’s done.“By the way, I really enjoy this line because it’s an inverse of the common trope that a woman was born to save or redeem a man (in fact, people tend to say this about Christine in regards to Erik a lot - that she was born or destined to love/redeem him). Instead, the line centers Christine as the Hero who takes on a great task and grows from it; Erik says he was born to give Christine an obstacle to overcome and a chance to grow into and demonstrate her overpowering love and goodness to save him. So I really dig that.(okay so yes in context of this movie it’s probably all bound up in the fact that Christine is a clone of his mom and any line about him “being born to” anything is probably referring to that and he follows up by saying she’s literally the reason he was born but shh let me have this)(also yes I realize he says this much earlier when he’s still trying to shenanigans her into loving him rather than at this emotional moment so the impact isn’t the same but I said LET ME HAVE THIS) -- source link
