2013 - First Carrot harvest - ‘Little Finger’Recommended variety, they’re small (which is more forgiving when you don’t have proper sandy-type soil for carrot growing - you can even grow these in containers), and sweet. I would let them bloom and seed save, but unfortunately they will cross with an aggressive invasive we have here (and is actually the header for this Tumblr blog) which is Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota). The Queen Anne’s Lace is quite beautiful and pollinators love it, so I haven’t gotten around to fully eradicating it yet (and may not). I love carrots so much I don’t even bother with washing all the soil off, I’ll just gobble them up in the garden. Left to my own devices I’ll devour a pound / 0.45 Kilo carrots in one sitting, so these are grown more for tasty amusement than to make an actual dent in grocery bills.Have also grown purple carrots, they were beautiful but not as sweet or tasty overall as these. -- source link
