I’ve been doing this thing lately where I’ll randomly bring a fish over to Caleb, our fish collection manager, just to see how quickly he can ID a fish. And sometimes he’ll walk me through his thought process. Though for some fish his explanation can be as simple and unsatisfying as “I don’t know, it just looks like (insert species here)”. I suppose it would be like talking to an 8 year old me how I can identify that something is a pokemon and not a digimon. I just know. It’s a fun game and it’s slowly teaching me what details I should be looking at when it comes to fish. And maybe one day I can publish a book titled “How to Look at Fish”.I know this is probably an easier one for most fisherman type people. If, like me, you didn’t grow up with much fishing, this fish is a baby yellow bullhead catfish: Ameiurus natalis. I thought it was adorable. This guy was collected in Indiana earlier this year.those wittle barbels -- source link
