Coin cabinet, c.1815 (mahogany and silver)From the MET:Based on drawings of Egypt by Baron Dominique Vivant Denon and probably made by François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter for Napoleon with silver mounts by Martin-Guillaume Biennais. The pylon (gateway) at Apollonopolis Parva (now Qus) in Upper Egypt, which Denon recorded in his book on Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign of 1798–99, served as the inspiration for the top section. -- source link
