I’ve taken various concepts from various versions of Sonic and mashed them together, more or less, as well as some unique takes on things.Sonic is kind of based mostly on Sonic CD’s Sonic, at least in the face. I wanted to make him really spiky and ‘hedgehogy’. I wasn’t sure about the fingerless gloves, but the point was ‘different from the usual’ so I went ahead and did it, since it was something that featured in that concept art and it wasn’t completely objectionable. Scarf and wrappings are obviously Boom influence. Not exactly the best rendering but it gets the point across. Or the points. Spiky spiky. I tried to give each character a ‘thing’ or a driving character point. Sonic is meant to be speedy and not necessarily super friendly at all times. Prickly, really.Tails is a mix of a few things. Main influence was how Tails was drawn in that really old Sonic manga- at least how the muzzle fluff is done. The clothing is mostly Boom inspired, though I sort of did my own thing on the footwear. It’s kind of unnecessary but I thought it was cute. With the tails I sort of went off of a moment in Lost World were Tails used his tail like a hand- I thought it’d be really fun/cartoony to push that even farther, so now his tails are basically arms. Arms he can fly with. His character points are that he’s young, precocious, and an inventor.Amy probably has the least strings attached visually. She has aspects of ‘modern’ Amy’s hair style, but I also made her more spiky because she’s a hedgehog. Her design is mainly based on the fact I wanted to emphasize her magical abilities more- to the point of making her a magician. In SEGASonic canon, she’s had the ability to use tarot cards, summon hammers from nowhere, and according to Sonic 2006 is able to become invisible. So it seemed a logical choice- and made sense to me more than ‘random gymnast’.Knuckles is sporting the larger body type that he got thanks to Boom. While I hated that idea when it first came up, it’s grown on me since- it does feel like it fits him. But I hate the idea of him being … well, really stupid. This version is closer to his older personality- naive, sometimes gullible, short tempered and not super dim. His concepts are strength, nature, and ancient heritage. -- source link
