Statuette of a Male BrewerThis statuette depicts a servant slightly kneeling and wearing a short white kilt. He is brewing beer. Barley grains were first soaked in water for some time and then crushed and trodden in water with a large quantity of yeast. After fermentation, the mash was filtered through a sieve or a piece of cloth and the filtered liquid was put aside to mature. The servant here mixes the barley with water using a big jar. The front of the jar has a hole to allow the liquid to come out.Painted limestone, from Saqqara necropolis. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. CG 117 -- source link
