Behold, the power of organizing! Many hands make light work. These are pictures of the largest beach cleanup in the world to date. The man who started, led, and funded this project is Afroz Shah. Volunteers helped him gather the garbage, and he paid for the trucks to haul it off. The local government did not help him in anyway. The UN gave him a prestigious environmental award and local school children were inspired. There was some discussion of locally banning single use plastics. After several years of trying to work on this ongoing project, last I’d read, he’d given up in Fall of 2017. He and his volunteers were heckled on the beach, chased off the beach, and the local government refused his garbage saying that the sand needed to be removed from all objects. However, he is still campaigning, and is active on twitter.More infohttps://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/filthy-mumbai-beach-rebreeds-turtles-city-lawyer-180419112428949.htmlhttps://thelogicalindian.com/environment/versova-beach-afroz-shah/ -- source link
