britstevenson:bowlingforthesoup:prettyboymccoy:britstevenson:so much potential! lost! I don’t think there were even any scenes of him struggling with having to join with a serial killer he was meant to be finding and arresting or disliking the new part of his life he was basically forced into, just some things like that would have made him a much better character.#this might not make sense #but imagine hoffman battling with the guilt of having to team up with the jigsaw killer when he’s meant to be working against him #imagine if they’d shown us some of his relationships in his department #ANYTHING #even his relationship with amanda would have been better than nothingi think so much of the problem is the writing. the actor is fine, even appropriately intense/frightening at parts, but it’s like for most of the films they told him “stand there and look stoic. maybe sneer” and didn’t give him any avenues to emote or be anything. like, it’s easier to identify with characters that are less relevant or get less screentime! for example, strahm- the scene where he calls perez’s mother after she was injured is short but so important because it shows that he’s not just an asshole, but that he is emotionally invested in another person/the job that he does. and we have jill and amanda who have complicated relationships with john and backstories that influence who they are now (jill’s miscarriage and work as a nurse, amanda’s self harm and drug addiction) andhoffman just does things. he doesn’t seem to really care about anything or anybody, so i just get annoyed with him for being involved in the demise of people who do care and are more interesting for it Hoffy I still love you. Even if you are written terribly. PRAYER CIRCLE FOR SAW 8prayer circle that he stays dead? i agree -- source link
